Now Microsoft Wants to Stop You Taking Them to Court [Update]

It’s one of 2011’s more troubling, if less sexydevelopments: that of major publishers and platform holders finding ways to stop customers taking them to court if something goes wrong with their product or service.

Sony was the first company to introduce a “no sue” clause as part of its terms of service in September, and was swiftly followed by Electronic Arts. Now Microsoft and its Xbox 360 are in on the act.

The fall is upon us and there are some very exciting video games being released in the next two months. Here is a list of the games that most excite me. It’s full of high budget Xbox 360 sequels because that’s the kind of gamer I am. I don’t own a PS3 and new IP’s are going to have to prove themselves before they get me to pay $40-$60 for them.

New Titles:
Gears of War 3 (9/20)
Modern Warfare 3 (11/8)
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (11/11)
Assassin’s Creed Revelations (11/15)
Rage (10/4)
Batman: Arkham City (11/18)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (9/23)
Battlefield 3 (10/25)
Forza Motorsport 4 (10/11)
Saint’s Row: The Third (11/15)

Red Dead Redemption GOTY Edition (10/11)
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (11/8)
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (11/15)

It all kicks off for me when GoW3 arrives tomorrow. Can’t wait.

The Internet Is Leaking

Honey badgers as playable characters in the new edition of NBA Jam for Xbox Live? This is just bizarre.

IGN recently updated their interactive list of the biggest releases of 2011 on each console as well as portables and PC. (I’ll link later)

As usual most of the biggest games (hype, budget, and sales) have fall release dates. So I get to spend the first half of the year psyching myself up for the craziness that is October and November.

To that end here are the Xbox 360 games that are on my radar. I have sorted them by personal excitement which is subject to change as we learn more about each game. It should also be noted that there are very few Xbox exclusives on this list. PS3 is poised to have a MUCH better year (especially if you like fps).

-MUST HAVES- Mass Effect 3 Call of Duty Portal 2 Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Gears of War 3

-WILL PLAY- Rage Batman: Arkham City Dead Space 2* Dragon Age II Max Payne 3

-VERY INTERESTED- Children of Eden Crysis 2 L.A. Noire

-WILL KEEP AN EYE OUT- Battlefield 3 Deus Ex: HR Forza 4 Bulletstorm

Call of Duty: Black Ops - Rushing Start on Summit

This is my first run at using Call of Duty Black Ops’ theater mode. I got this clip this weekend and while it is nothing too special I decided it was worth using to try to figure out what it takes to get these videos rendered.

You can clip as many as 6 or 8 different segments from one game, in any camera angle. They you can rearrange them and add in a quick cut or fade transition in between each segment. If the resulting film clip is less than 30 seconds long the game allows you to render it on your console and uploaded it to your theater file share (providing that you have an existing account which is linked to your gamertag/PSN username).

If you link your YouTube channel to your your account then the resulting video will be posted on your YouTube channel with tags for “call of duty” “black ops” and the gamertag of every person that was playing in that game with you.

[edit: it appears that Activision isn’t handing this feature out completely for free. they have attached an add banner at the end of the video. Right now it is for something to do with Dungeons and Dragons. Oh well.]

Kinect injuries are piling up. And you thought the wiimote was dangerous.

More reasons why all you need is an Xbox (ESPN, Hulu, Netflix, Facebook,, Twitter, Zune… oh yeah, and video games). Come on Microsoft, no Blu-ray yet?

Day 29: a video game with a beautifully unique art style

Rock Band Beatles had almost magical dreamscapes that bordered on distracting, Borderlands cell shading and XP explosions kept you mesmerized for hours. Alan Wake’s lighting carried the entire game. The game worked because the lighting effects excelled.

honorable mention: Beatles Rock Band, Borderlands

These are hot! I should get my fiancee the pink one to thank her for all the hours she has played Halo with me.

Although it seems strange that these don’t have the new D-pad. They will be outdated in about 2 months. Not a great shelf life.

Some sweet looking controllers. I want the black one.
