Katie and I are watching The Matrix DVD commentary right now. Lost of interesting insights.
- Roughly 20% of all frames were digitally altered which was an enormous proportion at the time.
- Shooting in Sydney proved difficult when they needed to find derelict neighborhoods and alleys. Apparently the city just doesn’t have slums or run down neighborhoods in the same way that most American and British cities do. The city is just too nice!
- The Helicopter crash was just about the only scene in which a small scale model was used.
- The lobby scene took about ten days to shoot (for about 3:00 of film) and all the columns, all the explosions, all the stunts are real. Only about two stuntmen shots were used in the entire scene.
- Carrie-Ann Moss was only given one take to land her off the wall cartwheel (with the help of some wire work) because it took about 6-8 hours to reset any one of the columns.
Day 27: A movie that you wish you’d seen in theaters
I was a bit too young for my parents to let me go see this movie back in 1999. Seeing this on a big screen with Dolby digital surround sound would have been incredible. Not to mention seeing it fresh, without any expectations. It became such a sensation. Very few people were able to walk in to see The Matrix without knowing anything about it. I envy them.
