Now Microsoft Wants to Stop You Taking Them to Court [Update]

It’s one of 2011’s more troubling, if less sexydevelopments: that of major publishers and platform holders finding ways to stop customers taking them to court if something goes wrong with their product or service.

Sony was the first company to introduce a “no sue” clause as part of its terms of service in September, and was swiftly followed by Electronic Arts. Now Microsoft and its Xbox 360 are in on the act.

[update] im not thrilled with the hitler photo that kotaku chose but im too lazy to change it at the moment.

[update 2] ok, we’re going with the kitten holding the xbox controller. not the best, but better.

all these quotes are just pure, unadulterated win*

“the gameplay is identical to what it was 10 years ago”

“the halo ce pistol is back and is still wildly overpowered”

“you hit a button at any point in the campaign, you flop back, and that’s what the game looked like 10 years ago”

“we didn’t touch the gameplay but its amazingly beautiful now”

*I know that by getting giddy about their commitment to extend the experience to online multiplayer while keeping gameplay identical to the original, I must also forgo my ability to later bitch about how the multiplayer is unbalanced in favor of the pistol. So I shall. You’ll hear no complaints from me.

Ok Rare. Ball is in your court. 007 Goldeneye HD for the 15 year anniversary next summer?

HALO 4

Ive been super busy all day so I just now went online to see what happened at E3 today.

OMG!

Halo 4? Are you serious? I did NOT see that coming.

it’s next year!

Sick day. Let’s do this thing.

Microsoft/Harmonix has marked a handful of Rock Band DLC packs at half-price. They include Rush’s Moving Pictures album, the All That Remains pack, and the Police pack (technically the cumbersome “the The Police pack”?). Grab them while they are hot (through Jan 11th). In most cases you will be paying about $1 USD per song.

Kinect injuries are piling up. And you thought the wiimote was dangerous.

AT&T Introduces U-verse TV on your Xbox 360

More reasons why all you need is an Xbox (ESPN, Hulu, Netflix, Facebook, Last.fm, Twitter, Zune… oh yeah, and video games). Come on Microsoft, no Blu-ray yet?

I was moving into a new apartment on the first day of E3. The one day in that I don’t have internet is the day of Microsoft’s presentation. Poor timing. So why don’t we catch up together.

Notables:

  • The Xbox I bought 5 months ago looks cooler and comes with wireless built in (shipping right now - $300)
  • Project Natal is re branded as Xbox Kinect (holiday 2010 release)
  • ESPN is coming to XBL for my favorite price (free w/ XBL gold)
  • Gears of War 3, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, and Dead Space 2 all dated for release.

Halo: Reach - the good, the bad-ass and the ugly

This video was made by Bungie so “the ugly” is more funny glitches than game breaking mechanics (there were a handful, it is a beta after all). I like a lot of these clips though. It gets me excited for the full game this fall.

I was certainly helped by living in a dirty studio apartment. Katie also helped so we had two sets of eyes (with two points of view on the couch). When it came to video games and movies, I tried to put the name of the production company not the studio. But that rule was broken on occasion.

That just happened.
