Happy Bullet For My Valentine’s Day!

(and Mass Effect Demo Day)

Punk has a built-in obsolescence in the fact that you’re singing about being a have-not. Then success makes you a have, and the idea of being angry because you’re poor is buried very quickly when your record sells. The idea is great, and the anger and emotion is great, but ultimately you have to move on, and the music’s going to have to do the talking.” -Paul Stanley of Kiss
as quoted in Ian Christe’s Sound of the Beast

YES!!!

Katie saw this lineup and we bought tickets immediately. My top 2 most listened to bands will be there. Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine and Black Tide in one place! This is going to be just about the best metal concert I’ve been to (neck and neck with Iron Maiden/Dream Theater).

Sorry boys, that’s Lolla Friday. I have a date with Matt Bellamy and the gang.

I’ve been glancing back over my shoulder ever since this morning when Apple’s seemingly sentient shuffle algorithm selected these songs for me.

Rockwell - Somebody’s Watching Me

When I come home at night
I bolt the door real tight.
People call me on the phone
I’m trying to avoid.
But can the people on TV see me
Or am I just paranoid.

Judas Priest - Electric Eye

Up here in space
I’m looking down on you
My lasers trace
Everything you do.
You think you’ve private lives
Think nothing of the kind.
There is no true escape
I’m watching all the time.

The Other “Friday” Songs - Part 1

Friday Night (Going Down In Flames) - The Damned Things [last.fm, iTunes]

The Damned Things is an American hard rock supergroup composed of Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley of Fall Out Boy, Keith Buckley of Every Time I Die, and Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano of Anthrax.

I downloaded their album last weekend and I’ve really been digging them.

Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet for My Valentine? Yes please!

Katie, wanna drive to Rockford in the middle of the week in April?

Motörhead with guests Clutch and Valient Thorr. Getting pumped on my way there.

No one can destroy the metal

(via afternoonsnoozebutton)

February is for metal concerts at the Congress Theater. First the California bred Metalcore of All That Remains (2/1) then the roaring British heavy metal of Motörhead (2/19).

I’ll be moshing solo at ATR but my amazing fiancée will be accompanying me to Motörhead. I am truly very lucky.

Who needs coffee when you have rock music and this skyline?

This morning featured Manchester Orchestra, Children of Bodom, Cut Copy, Black Kids (ft Lil Wayne), Megadeth, Tenacious D, Every Time I Die, and Metric. Metal is my caffeine equivalent of a double shot. Possibly a regrettable decision at 6:00 AM, but damn does it get you going!

Day 1: a killer intro

Black Tide - Warriors of Time (iTunes)

Kicking off this music challenge thing. I can already tell that these are going to be really hard to pick. I fear that my honorable mention lists will run from about 4-8 every single day. Oh well.

I love this song. The riff is addicting and the solo is ripping but it had me hooked before the electric guitar ever even entered. The pretty acoustic intro is one of the best cliches in metal music. I believe we have Metallica’s Fight Fire With Fire (and later Battery) to thank, but I could be wrong about that.

Listening to this song again gets me excited for the prospect of a second Black Tide album (reportedly in the works for a fall release). It also angers me that I missed them at Mahem last year. Oh well, people make mistakes.

honorable mention: Wolfmother - Joker and the Thief, Thrice - Deadbolt, Muse - Stockholm Syndrome, DragonForce - Through the Fire and Flames, ACDC - Back In Black, Coheed and Cambria - Welcome Home, Endeverafter - I Wanna Be Your Man, Ok Go - Invincible

part of the 30 days of music challenge

This website uses your last.fm listening habits to answer the question, what is your next favorite band? I used to pump out an answer for my profile and for Katie’s profile. The answers could not have been further from each other. Children of Bodom and Justin Bieber. Ha ha ha. I thought this was so funny. Katie is kinda pissed.

What did you get?
