2011: The year that every character in every single main piece of video game art walked toward the “camera”.

(via evanthegamer:thisgirlgames)

Deus Ex: HR, TES V: Skyrim, Battlefield 3, AC:R, TLOZ: Skyward Sword, MW3, Dark Souls

And the funny part for me is that because of the first person and third person perspectives, this is just about the only time you see these characters from this angle.

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood TGS 2010 Trailer

While I am only mildly excited for this game (Assassin’s Creed 2.1 at the end of a busy fall release schedule), this trailer is excellent. The syncing, wipes, and slo-mo make this one of the best video game trailers I’ve seen in a while.

Day 9: a video game with incompetent computer controlled enemies

Assassin’s Creed promises to provide an open environment in which you can plot your moves, take your mark, and disappear into crowd. Yet, thanks to truly terrible computer AI, hiding from alerted guards is as easy as running into a bale of hay, sitting on a bench, or simply standing in between four monks. The computer controlled guards are complete idiots. Guards in the first half of the game won’t be alerted unless you just start slashing people in front of them. Guards in the last part of the game go on full alert if bump into a pedestrian, start climbing a wall, or even just linger in once place too long.

While this sharp transition sounds troublesome it is nothing more than just annoying. This is because the computer controlled enemies are also TERRIBLE in combat. You can get through the entire game simply standing there and waiting to counter each an every attack. That is it. You beat the game. Don’t get me wrong, great game, it just suffers from repetition and weak combat balance. Embarrassingly bad AI is a huge reason.

honorable mention: Call of Duty: World at War, Farcry 2, Borderlands, Mario Brothers lol

Alan Wake Trailer

I just pre-ordered this game today. I think Katie and I will have a ton of fun playing through it. I can’t remember being this excited about a non-sequel game release since Assassin’s Creed (or maybe as far back as Gears of War). It touts itself an immersive single player experience around 6 years in the making (announced at E3 2005). I really think that playing through a fun and gripping storyline will be a refreshing departure from my typical achievement hunting (GH/RB) and hour logging (CoD/Halo). May 18th can’t come fast enough.
