Ways My Job is Different From Katie’s - Part 5
Traders get board and start making strange bets or issuing challenges. Today a guy was challenged to eat 60 McDonald’s chicken mcnuggets in under 20 minutes. He was successful. He downed all 60 in under 13 minutes and won the cash prize that the group had put together. $5,000! I don’t think I could put away that many chicken nuggets but I would LOVE a shot at 5 grand.

The Slap Bet
A slap bet is a traditional bet with special consequences. The winner gets to slap the loser once, as hard as they can, at any point over some defined period of time. The time period can be a day, a week, or even a year. The winner is aloud any number of feigned slaps but only one real slap. My coworkers and I got to thinking, “How much money would someone have to pay you to assume the role...

Anniversary of 1st human death by robot →
“Williams died instantly in 1979 when the robot’s arm slammed him as he was gathering parts in a storage facility, where the robot also retrieved parts.” I laughed. Then I laughed some more. I am a terrible person. Years later, the assembly line would claim one if its own in the climactic finish of The Terminator. [a day late]

My iPod got low enough on battery that the clock reset. Not a big deal except that I was conducting a little expiriment of sorts. Back in August I wanted to time how long it took me to get home after work. I started a stopwatch timer on my iPod when I left the office. I forgot about it when I got home. The timer had been running ever since. This battery failure caused it to freeze on the value...

The Expendables (2010) This movie looks ridiculous. THE action movie of 2010. Not because it is going to be good, but because of the insane cast. Sylvester Stallone Jason Statham Jet Li Mickey Rourke Steve Austin Bruce Willis Arnold Schwartzenegger  Dolph Lundgren Eric Roberts Cool guys don’t look at explosions

one of my students was talking smack about my...
kquizzo: Unfortunately, I don’t know if it was trash or smack, because I didn’t hear it…I just heard about the aftermath. “I don’t talk trash; I talk smack. They’re totally different. Trash talk is all hypothetical like ‘Your mama’s so fat she could eat the Internet.’ But smack talk is happening right now, like, ‘You’re ugly and I know it for a fact cuz I got the evidence RIGHT THERE.’” ...

The World's Biggest Diamond Heist →
“In February 2003, Notarbartolo was arrested for heading a ring of Italian thieves. They were accused of breaking into a vault two floors beneath the Antwerp Diamond Center and making off with at least $100 million worth of loose diamonds, gold, jewelry, and other spoils. The vault was thought to be impenetrable. It was protected by 10 layers of security, including infrared heat detectors,...

Star Wars: TPM 70 min video review →
I love scathing critiques and when it comes to the Star Wars prequels, this one takes the cake. A guy who sounds like Buffalo Bill created a 10 part 70 minute video review of exactly why Episode One failed. I wish I had found this earlier in life. It is smart, funny and well constructed. A small warning. The language is as harsh as his criticisms. NSFW, NSFP (Not Safe For Parents)

Possible Red Sox 2010 Lineup
The recent signing of Adrian Beltre adds even more to the Red Sox lineup. The possible 2010 lineup looks like: Ellsbury Pedroia Martinez Youkilis Drew Ortiz Cameron Beltre Scutaro This lineup projected to score about 5.85 runs per game, almost one-half run per game more than the 2009 Red Sox scored (5.38). Projected RPG (by Baseball Musings’ Lineup Analysis) assumes each player repeats...

Ended 2009 with a bang
I played about five games of Modern Warfare 2 last night and got my first tactical nuke (the result of a 25 killstreak). Getting a nuke was going to be a video game goal of 2010. So I was pretty thrilled to knock it out before 2010 even got started. The actual gameplay was pretty dramatic too. The game type was ground war domination on Terminal. I was working with the AK-47 (red dot) and PP2000...
